Harry and Snape (commission for [info]melora98)

So [info]melora98 wanted a picture of Harry and Snape set sometime after the final battle. And I'm going to quote her, because I've been trying to parphrase what she said, and there's no way on earth I can write something coherent today (my two neurons are offended with each other, it would seem). :/

I love the idea of Snape and Harry post-book-seven, where they've won the war, and Snape has finally revealed himself to NOT be the traitor they all thought he was, but he's sad and worn and tired and soul sick for all that he's had to do in order to keep Harry safe until he could fulfill his destiny. Snape, bent, worn, ragged and thin, perhaps even still in his Death Eater robes, his white mask cast aside, with Harry, eyes wide with wonder, tentatively approaching him, hand held out in truce or in offer...

And that's more or less what I tried to capture in the pic. I have to thank [info]melora98 because she let me experiment quite a bit and it was a fun concept to work on. :)

Notes: This picture does not belong to me; it belongs to [info]melora98, so please, do not use for icons, layouts or anything without asking her permission. She was very nice to let me post the picture in my LJ, so please, ask her if you want to use the picture for icons or something.

Disclaimer: Yeah, this is the part where I wash my hands. :) The ideas in the commissioned images are not mine and some of them will most likely be very different from what I generally do. I may or may not agree with them but I'm just trying to convey those ideas the best way I can. I'll try to explain quite thoroughly what the pictures are about. However, if these ideas are not your cup of tea, please, do not click on the link. I will not be responsible for any mental scarring and delightful WTF!moments that may happen. :P Hmmm... and that's about it I think.

ETA (sunday 18): I'm having some time issues around, so I have disabled the comments because I won't be able to reply for, at least, a couple of days. I'll reply to the comments that you guys have already left, but it won't happen very soon. :/

I like this. I really do. I got the feeling of what you hoped to capture even before I read it.

It's just lovely.

That is.... Very cool. Snapes face does capture that haggerd sense of being tired and what not. You can see emotion, which is cool. Though I'm wondering what inspired the statues, and what not. I really like the patterns on them as well.

Hmm. Neurons not cooperating, that, I can very well understand. -nods alot-

[info]caladan_dd

December 17 2005, 03:27:59 UTC 6 years ago

Thank you! I'm glad that Snape looks haggard and that there's emotion in the picture.

Though I'm wondering what inspired the statues, and what not.

I always like lizard-like statues. I don't know exactly what inspired me, though. Maybe LOTR.

And, yeah, neurons not cooperating are not fun at all. :)

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. :)

This is BEAUTIFUL. And perfect! I do hope JKR captures a moment like this picture does in the last book. Hope, hope, hope. I am not a Snarry fan in the way most people are (romance or sexual) but I do love reading about how they react to each other's behaviors; OOP was a perfect example. Harry hates Snape for hating him and for you-know-what-happens in #6, and yet Snape hates Harry for his own personal reasons AND I really, really, really do think that Snape is doing all of this for Harry because DEEP down (and I'd hate to sound all Star-Warsy) Snape is good and Snape really does care about Harry. Somehow.

[info]caladan_dd

December 17 2005, 07:32:53 UTC 6 years ago

Thank you! I'm very glad that you like the picture and that the moment depicted works. :)

(and I'd hate to sound all Star-Warsy)

LOL Yeah, Star Wars has that power I'm afraid. :)

I have to say, though, that I don't think Snape will end up being a good guy. I'm afraid that good ol' DD made a big mistake with him. But almost everybody in fandom thinks that he's good, so it might be true. :) **shrugs**

And thank you so much for leaving a comment. :)

Wow. Harry's looking really cool, but I'm really liking the devices in the background -- especially the Celtic knotwork stuff you're so good at :)

[info]caladan_dd

December 17 2005, 07:40:45 UTC 6 years ago

I'm glad that you like the stuff going on in the background. I really liked putting some gargoyles in there. :)

December 17 2005, 03:19:15 UTC 6 years ago

Wow. This almost looks like Harry is the one who removed Snape's mask, as a way of saying, "That's not what you are anymore." That's incredibly powerful.

[info]caladan_dd

December 17 2005, 07:46:02 UTC 6 years ago

You know? I did think about something along those lines. I was torn whether to make Harry be the one to take Snape's mask off or just touch the mask as if it were the source of all evil.

I'm very glad that you like melora's idea and that the picture works.

As always, thank you so much for your comments. :)

December 17 2005, 03:20:01 UTC 6 years ago

Oh, this is BEAUTIFUL. I love the dichotomy of the grim dark oppressive feel of post-war and the catacombs against the hope seen in Harry's offer of peace and the hint of light coming from above. Your work is always absolutely gorgeous, but the character of this one makes it especially so. <3

[info]caladan_dd

December 17 2005, 07:48:23 UTC 6 years ago

Thank you! I'm very glad that the background looks grim and oppressive; I wanted it to be rather glum looking.

So, you accepting commissions? Wow!! Really worth it a LOT!
This scene is so touchy, great theory btw, and I like how you draw Harry's hair but my fave thing is the "light", give a little of that "hope". Amazing as always :)

[info]caladan_dd

December 17 2005, 07:50:50 UTC 6 years ago

Yeah, I'm accepting commissions. I've managed to organized my crazy schedule so I can work on them. :)

The theory is all melora's credit, I just tried to convey it as close as i could.

I'm very glad that you like the lighting of the picture. And, as always, thank you so much for leaving a comment. :)

It's grea to hear that Snape does look defeated and haggard (that's what I was trying to do). I'm very glad that you like the picture. And thanks to you for taking your time to let Melora and me know what you think about it. :)

Beautiful way of showing a scene I hope is in Book VII. Snape's tired face is particularly what I was drawn to in the picture. There is so much emotion in that face and it is significantly different from the sneering face I usualy see in Snape!art. Great work!

I read what she said and was so excited to see the pic, I don't think I'm too disappointed.

The whole thing's dark and Snape actually looks tired and not angry, like he's usually seen as, at least in my mind anyway, and in pain and just, again, tired. The statues are very lovely as well, I really like the blue among brown and gray and black.

And for some strange reason, I love Snape just so much. He's probably one of my favorites because he's mysterious and I really don't think he's bad any longer, and you really didn't need to know that but yes, thank you for posting that, it's lovely :)

LOL Ahhh, one day I'm going to ask why people like him so much.I think he's a great character, but he's by far not my favourite. :)

And thanks to you for taking your time to let me know what you think about the picture.

But, even so, I don't think Harry would ever forgive Snape, even if he is not a traitor.

Oh, I totally agree with you. I don't even think Snape is a good guy. To me that's what makes him a great character. **shrugs**I don't quite get the attraction to him. But I like Scrimgeour and he's not a very nice guy either . :)

beautiful and amazing, as always. I love how detailed you are. I have Snape / Dumbledore on the tower as my wallpaper. I have two monitors. As I look at this pic in comparison with that one, the difference in Snape is so well presented but you can tell it's still the same person - albiet with a different face to the world he can present, now.

thank you for sharing this work! yay to [info]melora98 for requesting!
